OpenAI launches ChatGPT Work, a cloud-native AI agent for work
OpenAI officially launched ChatGPT Work on July 10, 2026 — a cloud-native AI agent designed to move beyond chat and perform complex, multi-step tasks across workplace applications.
The product is powered by OpenAI's GPT-5.6 family and can connect to email, calendars, Slack, GitHub, Google Drive and other enterprise tools. It is capable of running for hours in the cloud, breaking projects into stages and executing them with minimal human intervention.
ChatGPT Work is positioned to compete directly with Anthropic Claude Cowork and Microsoft Copilot Cowork, marking a shift from AI as a question-answering tool to AI as an autonomous work platform.
In the same announcement cycle, OpenAI disclosed that it had confidentially filed an S-1 registration statement with the SEC. Reports at the time pointed to a valuation range of $730–$852 billion and annualized revenue above $25 billion.
